This is an Italian restaurant favorite that you can make at home. You can leave out the vodka and add 1/2 teaspoon of sugar instead.
Add oil, butter, bacon and garlic to pan and heat on medium for 2 minutes.
- Add diced tomatoes and sauce and cook for 2 more minutes
- Add cream and cook 1 minute
- Add sugar or vodka and cook for 2 minutes
- Add salt to taste
Cook pasta according to directions.
Garnish with fresh basil.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 cloves garlic chopped
- 4 slices bacon
- 15 ounces tomato sauce canned
- 15 ounces diced tomatoes canned
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or half and half you can use whole milk as well
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar use 1/4 cup vodka instead, for the more traditional recipe.
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
- salt
- 1 pound penne cooked according to directons
